Halloween

Halloween in Argentina was very simple. It is considered an American holiday. Everyone knows about Halloween from the movies but they don't really celebrate it here the way we do. No trick or treaters, no decorations, no haunted houses etc.
They DO, however, celebrate the day in their English classes. Just as in America we might celebrate Cinco de Mayo in a Spanish class, here they celebrate Halloween in their English classes. The dress up and learn about our culture. As for me - I went to a young single adult Institute Halloween dance. It was a costume dance, but I didn’t have many resources myself for a halloween costume. I wore my Genie pants from Israel (which I use as my pajamas!), my soft shoe slippers, put my hair up in a high pony tail and did my makeup fun.
The music was a mix of cumbia, merengue, rock and random YMCA, “Gloria!” and rock’n around the clock. I immediately found the funnest looking people (the oes that actually had costumes) and joined up with them. I danced all night long and had a lot of fun.

I think it's sad and weird that they don't trick-or-treat or even put up decorations, but then again, I bet they think were weird that we trick-or-treat. I bet that it felt weird not having and kids knocking at your door or ringing your door bell.

I do'nt really thinck that's wierd. More than 50% of the human population does'nt trick-or-treat,or hang up Halloween decorations. It's the same thing with many more Hollodays.(I'm not sure about Christmas being one of those Hollydays.)

I want to see your makeup! So the MAC-over was worth it, if only for Halloween. And the genie pants! This blog has so many memories!

Hey everyone! I wish I could hear all about YOUR Halloween, I hope it was fun. It definitely was different not having trick or treaters. I think it time it will become a bigger holiday soon.

Tyson - I agree with you. I think that THEY think that WE are weird. It is a funny holiday if you think about it.

Kiriana - Happy Halloween to you too!
Logan - Cinco de Mayo is a great example of a holiday that has come to the United States but actually comes from another country.

Maddy - I was a genie. I wore my authentic pants from Jerusalem!

Lucas - that is a really good insight. Christmas actually ISN'T celebrated by all people. Remember when I came and taught about the Jewish religion? They don't celebrate Christmas. Christmas is meant to celebrate the birth of Christ, but if you remember they don't believe in Christ. They have other holidays that we don't celebrate.

Dear Miss Thomas,
Since my mom is from Argentina she told me about how they don't have certain holidays as us.One of these holidays are Thanksgiving, (since the pilgrams didn't land in South America.) She also said Easter is always fun.
