In the kitchen

Just as much as helping with Spanish, I am helping in the kitchen. We host dinners for the missionaries who just arrived, those that are leaving and those that are called as leaders. Not being able to find basic items like brown sugar make meal choices limited. We continue to experiment and try new things.
The other day we did fractured tacos but we couldn't find tortilla chips. We decided to make our own tortillas and they turned out pretty good. I BARELY got a chance to try them since they gotten eaten up REALLY quick!

My general rule is - if you cook, you don't clean. That doesn't really apply well when you are cooking for missionaries.

Dear Miss Thomas,
This is one of your sixth grade friends. If I were to pick any of those foods I would pick the empanada, and I would fill it with chicken. I am so glad you made this blog because i have learned a lot of stuff. You know how you are going like to a lot of different countries,In Mrs.Armstrong's class we are learning about Greece and wondering if you havebeen there and would share with us what you know because i love Greece. My mom was born there. hope you are having fun in Argentina.I had another question i asked last time i blogged you but i never got an answer so here it is again."Where did you go on you first mission?" i wam looking forward to going on a mission I think it would be fun to go and teach people about what i believe in i am a christian. oh i have another question did you get to watch general conference there if so i think it wa sthe best one i have watched even though all of them were good. it is so cold down here uist started snowing on Saturday. i have to wear a jacket now to school but i do not want a cold so better safe than sorry. Hi,
It must be pretty hard to make a big meal there. We pretty much take it all for granted here.I didn't notice how important brown sugar was but now that i think of it it is really important.

Great comments everyone. I am glad that I can share all of my experiences with you. I think that it is so important to learn about other people and the way that they live so that we can welcome people from all different cultures.
To answer some of your questions:
EMILY DEAN - it took almost 2 HOURS for the two of us to wash all the dishes and clean the kitchen. Whew. I was exhausted!

KIRIANA- my rule of "if you cook, you don't clean" comes from something my mom taught me. It is an old story about a little red hen that wanted to eat some bread but didn't want to help make it. When it came time to eat, the hen sat down and everyone else who had worked so hard to make it were upset the hen was there but invited the hen anyway. After they ate their meal, the hen didn't help clean up and after that, no one ever wanted to invite the hen to eat again. The hen only wanted to eat and not to help. I think that it is a courtesy to the cook to help. :) Moral of the story: after dinner - offer to do the dishes!

EMILY SMITH: Hmmmm - interesting question. What else have I cooked? I helped make a REALLY good chocolate cake - the missionaries loved it. Last week we made fractured tacos. I make a lot of salads, flan, and sometimes chicken. I am learning a lot from this experience.

PAYTON - I served my mission in Chile. It was a wonderful experience and one that I will always remember. It is a beautiful thing to serve other people all day long. I have no doubt that you will one day be a great missionary because of your desires to serve. I DID get to see General Conference and I agree - I thought it was excellent, one of the very best!

LOGAN - making food without brown sugar IS really hard and I appreciate your sympathy.
